Sporteve
Playa Del Rey Triathlon - October 5th, 2008
VBC Multisport LLC is excited to announce
the Sporteve Playa Del Rey Triathlon, a benefit for collegiate
triathlon that celebrates the city’s crosstown rivalry.
Set along the beautiful bluffs of Dockweiler State Beach in
Playa Del Rey, the Sporteve Playa Del Rey Triathlon encourages
students, alumni, and the community at large to “throw
down the gauntlet”, as all proceeds from the event are
donated to the UCLA & USC Triathlon Teams. Competitors
will swim 600 meters, bike 20K, and run 5K on one of the flattest
and fastest courses in Southern California. In 2009 VBC Multisport
hopes the see the race expand to include both sprint and Olympic-distance
events. [ view

to help promote the message of having a healthy active lifestyle
to the local community. Sporteve is a store that embraces
active lifestyles and the women who live them. Check back
for announcements on clinics to help you (men included) prepare
for the Sporteve Playa Del Rey Triathlon or check out Sporteve's
women-specific workshops and clinics here.

Google map by clicking here.
You can also view some photos of the course here.
600m Ocean Swim. The swim is located adjacent
to the transition area at Dockweiler Beach. Water temperatures
are expected to be in the low to mid 60s. Wetsuits are recommended.
Competitors will be sent off in 4 separate waves, spaced 5
minutes apart.
20K Bike. The bike course is a one-lap counter-clockwise
loop, involving portions of Vista Del Mar, Imperial Hwy, Pershing
Dr., and Westchester Parkway. The course has good pavement
and is completely flat, aside from a very gradual incline
along Westchester Parkway. Roads are almost entirely closed
to vehicle traffic and times should be very fast save for
some strong headwinds that often blow through the area.
5K Run. The run course is an out and back
loop along the Dockweiler service road. Completely flat, competitors
can expect extremely fast run times. An aid station will be
located at the turn-around

Directions/Parking
The Sporteve Playa Del Rey Triathlon is located
at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa Del Rey. From the 405,
take the 105 West. The 105 will turn into Imperial Hwy, which
dead-ends at the Dockweiler State Beach entrance. Have $5
in cash ready to pay for parking in order to avoid traffic
delays in entering the park. Event staff will direct you to
a parking spot. Local athletes should note that Vista Del
Mar north of Imperial will be entirely closed to traffic.
Click
here for directions from Google Maps. Note that to ensure
participant safety, vehicles should not expect to leave the
parking lot until all competitors are off the bike course,
which is estimated to be around 9am.
